Exciting Changes Coming - Read more about ECTE 2025 and ITTECF

It’s an exciting time in the world of Early Career Teachers (ECTs), with changes upcoming for next academic year.

The first change revolves around the previously separate Initial Teacher Training (ITT) Core Content Framework (CCF) and the ECT Early Career Framework (ECF). From September 2025, these are being amalgamated to form the ITTECF, a combined framework showing what trainees and ECTs will learn across their training year and early years of teaching.

This will help those who are just beginning their teaching journey to learn how to implement key skills into a classroom setting, building on complexity and prior knowledge, and preparing them for their careers as a teacher.

The second change will also be active from September 2025, with the ECT programme being renamed the Early Career Teacher Entitlement (ECTE).

We will be continuing to work with Ambition Institute to deliver this programme, with several key programme changes. These include a reduction in compulsory mentor training, to one-year, with the responsibility of mentoring an ECT remaining across both years of their induction. There will also be changes to learning strands for ECTs, with the addition of a Professional Practice strand, and changes to when the modules are released across the two-year programme.
