KS2 Reading Comprehension - Subject Knowledge Session 1 (CPD)

For KS2 teachers and Leaders of Reading
Aim: to improve pupils’ reading comprehension and standards at the end of KS2
During the subject knowledge sessions, delegates will:
· Develop a clear understanding of effective diagnostic strategies to identify pupils’ gaps in reading based on strong subject knowledge of reading comprehension
· Focus on the importance of teaching and broadening vocabulary implicitly and explicitly during reading
· Be able to teach linked shared and guided reading sessions focused on teaching comprehension skills and the wider reading requirements of the National Curriculum for English
· Understand how to reduce the cognitive load through explicit teaching of reading strategies
· Apply the principles of direct instruction through teacher modelling, scaffolded practice and independent application of skills
During the leadership sessions, delegates will:
· Develop leadership skills including preparing for a reading deep dive
· Understand the progression in reading across KS2, within and across year groups, through curriculum mapping.
· Explore secure teacher assessment in reading - both formative and summative
· Develop skills in action planning and monitoring and evaluation
This course will provide training in reading comprehension for additional teachers in schools who have already participated in the Reading Project AND welcomes new schools. All sessions will be delivered using Zoom.

Schools will receive a 20% reduction for a second teacher or second leader
